Stemettes, the organisation founded to encourage more girls into science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) is to launch its flagship app, OtotheB, to link interested girls with its work.

Best known for Outbox Incubator, the first incubator for girls aged 11 to 22 in STEM, which took place last summer, Stemettes will now be launching its dedicated app on 13 February to coincide with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

The idea of the app, Stemettes explains, is to create a global online platform for girls interested in STEM and entrepreneurship, with a specific focus on guiding them towards a career in whatever field they choose, making it the first app of its kind to do so.

According to Stemette’s co-founder, and Inspirefest 2015 speakerAnne Marie Imafidon, the real goal for the app is to spread the organisation’s message outside of the UK and Ireland to other girls who might be interested in taking up a STEM career, but might not know how to go about it.

‘A fantastic new resource’

The features on the app include a list of the organisation’s upcoming events, as well as its daily features, which include interviews, Google Hangouts with industry role models and competitions.

Inspirefest 2015 speaker and academic, Dr Sue Black, described the app as a “fantastic new resource for young women interested in technology”.

“The app is an interesting and engaging platform that will engage, motivate and nurture young women, helping them to see that STEM is an exciting area with incredible opportunities for them and for everyone.”

The app is available for free from the Google Play Store and App Store.
