Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young had cause for alarm recently when his custom-built hybrid vehicle caught fire while recharging in a warehouse.
The ‘Harvest Moon’ hit-maker’s custom-built hybrid vehicle, the LincVolt – a retro-fitted 1959 Lincoln Continental – suffered damage during the fire when it was left plugged in unattended, as reported by the New York Times.
The damage done
Young said the wall-charging system “was not completely tested and had never been left unattended”.
The singer’s LincVolt has a biofuel-compatible micro-turbine engine that charges its lithium-ion battery pack. When not using fuel, the pure electric mode achieves a 50-mile range.
The hybrid vehicle is being rebuilt.
