NASA has installed six electric vehicle charging stations at its new North Administrative and Maintenance Facility – its first carbon neutral facility – in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
The NASA facility, which opened in January, produces enough energy onsite from renewable sources to offset what it requires to operate. It consists of two buildings, one to store cryogenic fuel transfer equipment and one to house personnel who support fuelling spacecraft.
Renewable features of the facility include a rainwater harvesting system for non-potable water irrigation and bathroom use and more than 300 high-efficient solar panels on the roof.
NovaCharge supplied the six ChargePoint networked electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, which are manufactured by Coulomb Technologies.
“Coulomb’s ChargePoint Network provides us with an online browser-based management portal that allows us to learn about our charging stations’ electricity usage, greenhouse gas and gasoline savings and EV charging behaviour,” said Bruce Chesson from NASA.
