A new tower type concentrated solar power plant has been planned in Tunisia targeting the desert solar energy market, which is currently dominated by European firms.

Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding Co are planning the solar plant that will be 5 megawatts (MW) capacity in El Borma, southern Tunisia, and will be coupled with a 39MW gas turbine combined-cycle plant that combines gas and steam turbines while generating power.

According to Reuters, Mitsui will build the plant under a joint project of the Japanese and Tunisian governments.
