Ireland’s House of the Oireachtas has put out a tender to equip Ireland’s TDs and senators and various staff with 300 tablet computers in a project worth between €150,000 and €200,000.

According to the Notice Search on eTenders, the Houses of the Oireachtas Service is seeking proposals from a number of providers for the provision of 300 tablets and the necessary technical support.

The devices will be distributed to 166 TDs and 60 senators in the Dáil and Seanad respectively, and various individuals who work at the Houses of the Oireachtas.

Tablet computers can range in price between €200 for 7-inch devices like the Amazon Kindle Fire and Google’s Nexus 7, up to between €499 and €829 for various models of the new iPad, which come with 9.7-inch screens. In addition, Microsoft and various PC manufacturers, including Dell, Lenovo and HP, are about to reveal a swathe of new tablet computers powered by Windows 8 with prices ranging from €200 up to €800, depending on the model.

According to the tender document, there is no minimum price set for the purchase of the devices and tenders will need to be submitted by 9 October.

A separate tender was also issued for a suitable mobile device management (MDM) solution “that will enable a uniform management interface and a consistent security policy to be applied across all devices.” The MDM tender has a deadline of 8 October.

The latest tenders were amongst a series of technology tenders put out by the House of the Oireachtas Service in relation to print consumables, a call management system and PABX and LAN management support.
