Italian spy software company Hacking Team appears to have been hacked, with 400gb of leaked files doing the rounds on the internet. In the leak, countries like Saudi Arabia and Sudan are alleged to be direct customers.
The organisation is listed as one of Reporters Without Borders’ “corporate enemies of the internet” for its role providing surveillance software to oppressive regimes around the world – something Hacking Team has denied.
However, events in the last few hours appear to have undermined that somehow.
Hacking Team’s Twitter account is currently compromised, with its banner now reading ‘Hacked Team’.

Its new bio reads: “Developing ineffective, easy-to-pwn offensive technology to compromise the operations of the worldwide law enforcement and intelligence communities.”
As yet, those who cracked Hacking Team are unknown, and the company itself hasn’t produced any statement.
This is apparently an advertisement for the company’s Da Vinci surveillance tool.
Social media is already awash with screen grabs of the leaks and links to where to download the files, with reports updating at regular intervals.
Hacking Team’s Twitter remaining compromised this long after the attack is quite surprising.
