Modelling data to come into focus at Predict conference

14 Sep 2015

The dissemination and consumption of data will be discussed at a Dublin summit this week, with processing, modelling, prediction and analytics to the fore.

A reflection of Ireland’s growing position as a leader of data management and technology, Predict is targeting the people who work in those areas for its data conference.

Already in Ireland there is a significant community of employers for whom data is their lifesblood.

There are financial institutions like Pramerica, Fidelity and Bank of America Merrill Lynch, visualisation firms like Tableau, social media giants like Twitter and almost everything in between.

Yet still, to many, data remains a confusing, impenetrable idea.

“When we were planning the Predict Conference we wanted to celebrate the best of data analytics and to demystify it for the broad business community,” said conference organiser Cronan McNamara.

40 speakers will attend the event, with a series of projects to explore how the worlds of food safety, risk, finance, dieting, crisis management, investment, artificial intelligence and journalism are been driven by effective processing and modelling of data.

Amongst other things, speakers will look at how algorithms are driving tailored diets and predicting future health outcomes.

There will be discussions of data in the media, with new innovations in sentiment analysis investigated.

“[We] wanted to push the boundaries of traditional conferences to match how people really learn, connect and become inspired,” said McNamara.

The three-day event will take place at the RDS from 15-17 September.
