Interxion’s Dublin campus has been selected as the point of presence for the $300m cable that will connect London with New York via Mayo

European data centre operator Interxion’s Dublin campus has been selected to provide the point-of-presence (POP) for the $300m transatlantic fibre cable that will connect London with New York via Dublin and Mayo.

Aqua Comms is the company behind the $300m transatlantic fibre cable that will connect the US to Europe via Mayo, which was recently spliced together in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

The system, called America Europe Connect (AEConnect), will provide a terrestrial connection running from Mayo to Dublin, then across the Irish Sea and on to London and greater Europe.

The cable will provide world-class data transfer speeds across the Atlantic with a latency speed of 53.9 milliseconds.

The Interxion connection

Karl Mulhall, managing director of Interxion Ireland, said that the seamless link between Ireland, the UK and America will increase opportunities for companies in Ireland.

When it came to deployment of services, Interxion was able to facilitate Aqua Comms timelines in relation to its Irish-based and multinational clients.

“Their strong reputation, significant client base, support services and ability to assist us in terms of deployment timelines made them an ideal choice as an Irish-based data centre provider,” said Peter Zwinkels, chief commercial officer at Aqua Comms.

“Interxion’s experience with multinational companies lends itself very well to our own services,” Zwinkels added.
