Datapac in €170k deal with Sam McCauley Chemists

ICT provider Datapac has secured a five-year contract worth €170,000 to provide a managed print solution for all Sam McCauley Chemists across Ireland.

The Datapac solution will centralise the management of printing across the entire group in an effort to reduce costs, improve productivity, and customer service.

Sam McCauley’s has been in operation since 1953 and since then has extended its presence with 24 locations around Ireland. The group employs more than 550 staff and has an annual turnover in excess of €85m.

Prior to the implementation of the Datapac solution, Sam McCauley’s had a very complex print solution in place with 10 printer models and more than 80 types of consumables. This had become difficult to maintain, as it had little visibility or control over printer reliability and costs.

“Printing is essential to every pharmacy and is an integral part of our processes,” said Will Power, IT manager, Sam McCauley Chemists.

“Management of an efficient pharmacy requires that the pharmacy printers are reliable, robust and are repaired quickly if there is a problem. Datapac has provided us with a managed solution which fully matches our requirements and enables us to save money and improve customer service. We now have one point of contact instead of 10, which has improved efficiency greatly across the group.”

Streamlined print environment

Datapac was chosen to streamline and manage the entire print environment for the 24 retail outlets. Datapac installed HP Laserjet printers in every store to handle all printing jobs.

Datapac will centrally manage the online monitoring of all printers to ensure their constant availability during retail opening hours. It will also facilitate the automated ordering and delivery of toner for every machine.

By streamlining the entire printer fleet, Sam McCauley Chemists is benefitting from significantly reduced costs and improved productivity. The transparent cost per copy model provided by Datapac has allowed the group to save 30pc on printing costs.

The new solution from Datapac is also aiding Sam McCauley Chemists to achieve its green IT targets, through an automated power saving policy which has been put in place across all stores. The new devices are timed to shut down and start up, reducing the power used in each pharmacy.

John Jones, managed print specialist, Datapac, said, “The printing process is of particular value and importance to pharmacy retailers. This solution removes the complexity of managing a large fleet of printing devices across multiple locations. The scalable solution will allow Sam McCauley’s to easily and cost effectively expand their printer fleet as the company continues to grow.”
