Dell launching more tablet PCs in 2011, to reveal cloud acquisition

Dell’s CEO has said the company will launch numerous tablet computers in 2011 and is planning to announce an acquisition related to cloud computing today.

“We’re going to have a significant number of new tablets in the next year,” Michael Dell said at a conference in Hong Kong.

“There’s lots of debate about the size of the market, who’s buying these devices, and those questions always emerge when there’s a new form factor.”

Dell previously unveiled a 7-inch tablet computer in September called the Streak, following a 5-inch model earlier that month.

Michael Dell noted that the feedback developers had given him indicated they found it easier to develop on the Windows platform as opposed to Google’s Android platform, suggesting they would be leaning towards Windows as an OS for future smartphone and tablet offerings.

Dell also said he would also reveal an acquisition for their cloud computing portfolio, but did not provide any further details.
