Oireachtas signs IT deal with Siemens

1 Mar 2004

The Houses of the Oireachtas have signed a multi-year IT contract with Siemens and Business Services to manage IT support for all the staff as well as parliamentary members’ staff following a tender process.

The deal with the Houses of the Oireacthas, which began in January, includes hardware maintenance, deskside application support for end users, day-to-day server operation and wide area network management.

It is also understood that Siemens will act as a strategic information and communications technology partner to the Office of the Houses of the Oireachtas offering advice and guidance on IT strategy and support where appropriate.

The chairman of the Houses of the Oireachtas, Dr Rory O’Hanlon TD commented: “Working with Siemens will ensure that members and staff will benefit from a very high level of IT service, minimising downtime and facilitating improved communication at all levels within the Oireachtas.

“This is a definite step forward in our key aim to deliver the right services to our key clients and improve the security and resilience of our systems,” Dr O’Hanlon said.
