Tech CEOs named as top wealth creators in US

21 Dec 2010

Priceline.com’s Jeffrey Boyd, Apple’s Steve Jobs and Amazon.com’s Jeff Bezos have been named No 1, No 4 and No 5 top wealth creators respectively in the US.

The annual listing by Chief Executive Magazine saw Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer plunge from No 8 on the list last year to a lowly No 73 this year.

Chief Executive measures each company by share price as a reflection on the returns to investors and therefore wealth generation.

Jeffrey Boyd is the CEO of Priceline.com, a site that helps consumers get better rates on travel and hotel deals.

As everyone knows, Steve Jobs is the co-founder of Apple, makers of the eponymous Apple Mac, iPad, MacBook, iPhone and iPod, to name but a few. His company this year surged past Microsoft in market capitalisation, achieving a valuation of a mouth-watering US$200bn.

Jeff Bezos’ Amazon.com has become a different beast from its origins as an online bookseller. Still in the books business, and pretty much everything else, the e-commerce portal has emerged as one of the most powerful brokers in the cloud software and computing revolution.
