Facebook on the iPhone

Rumours of the Facebook phone have emerged again. HTC is reportedly working with Facebook to develop a customised smartphone which may see a launch in the third quarter of 2012.

DigiTimes reports that the collaboration will result in an Android phone with a ‘platform exclusive to Facebook’ which will integrate all of the features from the social networking site.

The report claims that as Google has been working closely with Samsung on its ‘pure Android’ Nexus smartphones, such as the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus over the last few years, HTC will work with Facebook to release their own collaborative smartphones. Google had worked with HTC to build the first Nexus phone, the Nexus One.

HTC previously created smartphones such as the ChaCha and the Salsa which had a dedicated, context-aware Facebook button to allow quick sharing of content to Facebook. However, this new rumoured device could bring Facebook integration to a whole other level.

Rumours of a dedicated ‘Facebook phone’ have been circulating for some time now. Last November, there were reports that Facebook was working with HTC to build a smartphone with deep social networking integration which was code named ‘Buffy.’

It could run a custom version of Android with heavy Facebook integration and may support HTML5 as a platform for apps.
