As part of a joint campaign promoting a great night out, responsible drinking and getting home safely this Christmas, Hailo and drinkaware.ie have teamed up to distribute more than €500,000 worth of taxi vouchers throughout December.

The Hailo vouchers will be available in restaurateur Joe Macken’s hip eateries around Dublin – which includes Jo’Burger in Rathmines and Castle Market, and Skinflint, Bear and Crackbird in the city centre – from 3-5 December, and at additional participating venues throughout the rest of the month.

More than 100,000 vouchers will be distributed, each offering a €5 discount on a Hailo taxi. Voucher codes can also be downloaded from the drinkaware.ie Facebook page.

“Hailo is Dublin’s largest taxi network and allows users to call a taxi to their current location with just two taps on a smartphone. This means they won’t have to stand in a taxi queue on their own, or end up walking around town alone trying to flag one down on the road,” explained Fionnuala Sheehan, chief executive of drinkaware.ie, the responsible drinking programme.

More than 2,500 Dublin taxi drivers can be booked using Hailo, which currently has an average wait time of 4 minutes and 27 seconds. The app also records all journeys and sends on the vetted driver’s photo and roof sign information to users to ensure their safety when booking. “We’re encouraging people to enjoy their nights out over Christmas but to spend just a moment to consider how to get home safely!” said Hailo managing director Colm Ó Cuilleanáin.

Hailo apps for Android and iOS can be downloaded from the website.
