Nokia's HQ at Espoo, Finland, where they may soon be joined by a Samsung R&D facility
Figures from IDC for the first quarter of 2013 show that Samsung has bested Finnish rival Nokia on its own turf, selling more handsets in Finland than Nokia for the first time.
The sales figures, quoted in Android Beat, attribute 36pc of the mobile phone market share to Samsung, scraping ahead of Nokia, which accounts for 33pc. Apple, for the curious fanbois that are wondering, has a hold on 14pc of the Finnish phone market.
These figures reflect the brand preferences of 587,000 handsets sold in Finland in Q1 2013, be they smart, feature or the regular old mobile phone.
Just last year, Samsung overtook Nokia for the first time as the world’s top mobile phone vendor and now seems to have taken the Finnish company’s last stronghold. Further asserting its dominance, Samsung is also reportedly planning to establish a research and development facility in Espoo – where Nokia’s headquarters are located.
