iPhone 6 Plus release has led to a reduction in iPad use – report

28 Nov 2014

The release of Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus has caused a migration away from the iPad tablet as owners use the 5.5-inch device to consume more media than any previous version of the smartphone.

That’s according to new data released by Get Pocket, which is based on more than 2m articles and videos accessed via the internet bookmarking app.

The report found that users who upgraded to an iPhone 6 Plus now view content on their phones 80pc of the time, with the iPad at just 20pc. That marks a 25pc jump from the smaller iPhone 5s.

It was also discovered that users with both an iPhone and an iPad consumed 33pc more articles and videos inside Pocket after upgrading to an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus than they did with a 5/5S.

Apple iPhone 6 Plus owners also open nearly 40pc more videos than those who carry an iPhone 5/5S and 16pc more videos than iPhone 6 users. However, the tablet still rules post-9pm as iPad owners enjoy reading on the bigger screen right before bed.

Pocket also found that over two-and-a-half times more of their users are choosing the iPhone 6 over the 6 Plus. “This tells us that, at least for now, convenience and portability trump a better (and bigger) entertainment and reading experience,” the firm commented.
