Skype can be crashed with just one typo – you’ve been warned

3 Jun 2015

Be careful placing links in Skype's messenger - one small typo and your app could be kaput!

It has emerged that mistyping a URL address in Skype will crash the program and potentially require a complete application re-install.

Just eight characters – http://: – and note in particular the colon at the end – will crash Skype if placed in a message to another Skype user.

It is understood the issue affects Windows users more so than Mac users.

The bug was discovered by accident by a user and was posted in a Skype community forum.

The bug’s discovery followed hot on the heels of news last week that a specific message with Arabic characters will crash iMessages on an iPhone.

The key difference here is that it takes just one colon in the wrong place and your Skype is toast.

You’ve been warned.
