Siliconrepublic.com’s man on the ground in San Francisco, editor John Kennedy, gives us our first look at Apple’s ‘game-changing’ new 12.9in iPad Pro.

At its launch last night, the iPad Pro was described by the company’s CEO, Tim Cook, as “the future of personal computing – it’s a piece of glass that can transform into anything”.

In landscape mode, the huge 12.9in screen is equal to two older iPad Mini tablets side-by-side in portrait mode and has an impressive screen resolution of 5.9MP.

Apple’s global head of marketing, Phil Schiller, even went as far as to say that the new A9X processor included in the iPad Pro makes it 90pc faster than any of the portable PCs revealed last year.

Aside from what’s going on on the screen, much has been made of Apple’s decision to relaunch the stylus as the Apple Pencil to be used on the iPad Pro as an accurate design tool that could be used extensively with Microsoft Office products as well as Adobe’s.

From an Irish perspective, the highlight of the night came when former Siliconrepublic.com Start-up of the Week 3D4Medical came on stage to demonstrate the iPad Pro’s precision when it comes to digitally dissecting the human anatomy.

As for how long it will last on a single charge, Apple has said it will go for 10 hours before needing to be charged again.
