It’s that time of year again as the gadgets we’re expected to fawn over in 2016 will be rolled out at CES 2016, with the first big attention grabber an 18-inch foldable LG TV screen.

A foldable TV screen has been the goal for hardware manufacturers for some time now, with hopes of people being able to take a portable TV experience from the limitations of a tablet to true sci-fi glory.

And now, despite CES 2016’s rapid shift towards autotech, LG says that the event will see its 18-inch foldable screen’s full debut.

The South Korean manufacturer revealed the concept at CES 2015, but at that point the screen was still in a prototype stage with little really shown of its capabilities.

Those who will be attending the major tech event in Las Vegas from Wednesday will be keen to see what has changed since the company first revealed the relatively small screen last year (the OLED panel then measured just 3cm across, with a 1,200×810 pixel resolution).

Otherwise, it’s business as usual for LG with further development of standard screens which are larger and thinner than any seen before.

These include a 55-inch paper-thin OLED screen concept achieved by separately installing key electrical circuits, and a double-sided 55-inch screen capable of showing two video streams at the same time, aimed squarely at the video advertising sector.

But, of course, there’s still the attachment of this year’s event to all things autotech, with LG planning to reveal a 25-inch ‘waterfall’ curved LCD screen designed to fit into a car, as well as a 10.3-inch screen designed to be used by a driver wearing gloves.
