Periscope is about to head out into the great, big outdoors with the news that the Twitter-owned app has agreed a deal to cater to live-streaming from a GoPro camera.
The ability to stream a GoPro camera using Periscope seems like a bit of a no-brainer, as the latter looks to move away from people just streaming their breakfast or trip to the shop and tap into the appeal of extreme GoPro videos.
The addition of this feature is also likely to appeal to well-known extreme sports enthusiasts as, much like gaming personalities can stream their activities live on Twitch, a similar live experience can now be achieved through Periscope.
In fact, Periscope has already suggested that there will be a number of streams incoming from the upcoming X Games, an annual extreme sports extravaganza, which is being held in Aspen this year.
Only iOS
According to Periscope, those with a compatible GoPro camera will become recognisable on the phone, which will then prompt the user to connect, or not.
It’s then just a case of selecting yes and streaming the GoPro to Periscope, and it seems to be easy to switch back and forth between the camera and the phone with all video recordings stored on the camera’s SD card.
It’s not for everyone, unfortunately, as Periscope says that it’s only available to users on iOS, and can only work on the Hero 4 Black and Hero 4 Silver GoPro cameras.
Periscope has tweeted an example of what it will look like, and you have to admit, it’s pretty cool.
