Samsung has announced the date for its next ‘Unpacked’ event, with “The Next Galaxy” set to take place on 21 February, just before Mobile World Congress.

Mobile World Congress (MWC) is one of the biggest events of the year when it comes to major reveals and cutting-edge advances in smartphones. Samsung, as usual, is planning a big launch for the Samsung Galaxy S7.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 – which will follow the very impressive S6 and S6 Edge from 2015 – is one of the year’s more anticipated devices, on the back of some unique and well-received designs from the company last year.

However, nobody really knows what to expect. Rumours and counter-rumours have emerged in the past few weeks, with screen sizes, processing capabilities and even water resistance sparking plenty of discussion at the turn of the year.

Sammobile caught a glimpse of some images recently that alluded to a 5.7in screen, similar to that of the S6 Edge+. VentureBeat, though, reckons the screen will be 5.5in, citing sources.

There are reports of a very welcome microSD slot inclusion, a pressure sensitive screen is likely, and a USB-C connection is expected.

The unpacked event will be on Sunday 21 February, the evening before MWC kicks off. The teaser video shows a Gear VR headset, too, so expect a bit more than just a simple phone launch.
