Amazon said to have five or six new mobile devices in the works

A representative from Staples, a leading retailer in the US that sells the Kindle Fire, has apparently let the cat out of the bag, revealing that Amazon plans to release up to six new tablet devices.

According to Reuters, Demos Parneros, president of US retail for Staples, said Amazon will introduce five or six new tablet stock-keeping units (SKUs). These unique codes are what retailers and businesses use to identify different products.

While 10-inch and 7-inch versions of the Kindle Fire have already been heavily speculated upon, Parneros suggests there will be a range of sizes available as Amazon pushes products that will encourage sales of its digital media, such as e-books and MP3 downloads.

Amazon is also rumoured to be working on a smartphone – could it be that one of these new devices will be just that? We’ll just have to wait and see.
