Amazon to host press event on 6 September, new products expected

24 Aug 2012

Amazon is planning a press conference to take place on Thursday, 6 September in California. Could this be the launch of a new Kindle Fire? Or are we about to see the big reveal – an Amazon smartphone?

The Next Web reports that they have been invited to the event, and they’re placing bets that a new Kindle Fire or a phone – or both – will be unveiled. Sources for The Next Web claim that big news is on the way and the selected venue is said to be huge, indicating that Amazon certainly has something important to share with the press.

Last month, an executive from retailer Staples claimed that Amazon has five or six new mobile devices in the works, and rumours of a 7-inch and 10-inch Kindle Fire have been doing the rounds for some time now. It has also been reported that the retail giant has been testing a smartphone in Asia.

If Amazon reveal some new products at this event, they will have pipped Apple to the post, if speculation that its new products will be revealed on 12 September proves true.

In Santa Monica, the event takes place at 10.30am, which will be 6.30pm Irish time. Guaranteed, we’ll be watching to see what the outcome is.
