App Store downloads hit 2 billion

28 Sep 2009

Today saw the download of the 2 billionth iPhone application globally from Apple’s App Store, and to put that in further context there are now 85,000 diferent apps available to download for the iPhone and iPod touch.

More impressive numbers: there are more than 50 million iPhone and iPod touch customers in 77 markets globally and to fuel this massive appetite there are more than 125,000 developers registered with Apple’s iPhone developer program. Phew!

It was only back in July that Apple reported more than 1.5bn app downloads, meaning that almost 25pc growth in download volume occurred in this past quarter alone.

What did Apple CEO Steve Jobs have to say about all of this? “The App Store has reinvented what you can do with a mobile handheld device, and our users are clearly loving it,” he stated.
