The new Apple iPhone 5

Though the iPhone 5 has seen a mixed reaction of disappointment and excitement, the naysayers don’t seem to have discouraged the fanbois as the smartphone has reportedly achieved Apple’s best ever first weekend of sales for an iPhone.

US network AT&T has said it set a record with sales of the iPhone 5 over the weekend and that it is the fastest-selling iPhone ever offered by the company.

Official figures have not yet been released, but Apple is expected to reveal initial sales later this week.

Previously, a Piper Jaffray analyst predicted that the first week of sales of the iPhone 5 could see up to 6m to 10m units, which would boost Apple’s iPhone sales for this quarter to around the 30m mark.
