A young girl who appeared in a video throwing six puppies into a river has been traced, police in Bosnia have said.

A girl in a red hoodie cause a huge reaction online after she was shown in a 43-second clip, that had been posted on YouTube, apparently throwing the puppies into a river one by one.

Leads provided by animal protection groups in Bosnia led police in the central town of Bugojno to the girl.

The girl’s parents will be questioned, police said. Under Bosnian law, people can be fined up to €4,700 for animal cruelty.

The video sparked an enormous reaction against the girl from websites such as 4chan and Reddit.

A Facebook group had been created which quickly drew more than 4,000 members and had received numerous angry and violent comments against the girl.
