Canon has updated its range of cameras with four new models – The IXUS 1000 HS, the PowerShot S95, the PowerShot SX130 IS and the Selphy CP800.
The IXUS 1000HS model marks the 10th anniversary of its IXUS range and is available in silver, pink and brown. It features a 10x optical zoom, and according to Canon research undertaken in July 2010, this makes it the slimmest super zoom camera in the world.
It also supports Full HD video capture, allowing users to film 1080p movies.
It’s the second to feature the HS System, which combines a high sensitivity, 10.0-megapixel CMOS sensor with DIGIC 4 processing to provide high image quality and high-speed shooting.
The IXUS 1000 HS is available from September 2010, costing €419 RRP incl. VAT.
The S-series focus is to provide advanced manual control and lowlight performance in a compact camera, and the S95 is non exception.
The PowerShot S95 offers improved handling, greater levels of manual control, HD movie capabilitits, the HS System.
It’s also the first Canon compact to provide Hybrid IS technology, allowing for improved image stabilisation for macro photography.
The lens Control Ring has been made more flexible with an improved f/2.0 lens. The camera itself is a lot slimmer than previous models, at 29.5mm thick. It has the same coating as the EOS 7D for improved slip-resistance and grip.
It also offers RAW format shooting and support for Canon’s Digital Photo Professional software.
The Powershot S95 is available from August 2010, costing €479 RRP incl. VAT.
PowerShot SX130 IS
An upgrade to the PowerShot SX120 IS, this model offers high quality still images and HD movies.
It provides a 12.1-megapixel sensor and a 28mm wide angle lens at an affordable price.
The SX130 IS is aimed at a beginner and offers an Easy Mode to disable more complex settings to reduce confusion.
It also has a Smart Auto setting, which detects 28 different scenes, from sunsets to birthday parties, and automatically optimises the camera to the shooting subject.
The PowerShot SX130 IS is available from late August 2010 costing €229 RRP incl. VAT.
The latest edition to the SELPHY range, the CP800, offers a silmmer design for home photo printing.
The SELPHY CP800 offers a variety of layouts and sizes, including postcard, L size and credit card.
It also offers a Shuffle layout print mode, which arranges multiple pictures for interesting montages.
The CP800 also has an ID photo mode, for passport or driving license photos.
The SELPHY CP800 is available from September 2010, costing €119 RRP inc. VAT.
