Irish clean-tech start-up Climote, a spin-out of Smarthomes, has made it to the finals of the Appy Awards, which will be held in San Francisco on 19 March, for its app that allows people to control their heating remotely via their smartphones.
The Climote app will go up against BMW’s Evolve App and the JiWire Wi-Fi Finder App in the Utilities category at the Appys.
Climote said today that its Climote product will be officially launching at the end of March at the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) Energy Show at the RDS. Enterprise Ireland has already given Climote some funding for the R&D aspect of the product.
Climote’s managing director Eamon Conway said today that the app would allow people to turn their smartphone into a remote control heating device, so they can set heating schedules for either their homes or offices.
The company is also claiming the Climote app can reduce home heating bills by up to 20pc.
People can choose from a wall-mounted Climote ‘HUB’ to replace traditional timers, said Conway, while the app will also have an online facility for people to control their heating.
