Facebook’s iPhone app gets overhaul

28 Aug 2009

Version 3 of social networking site Facebook’s free iPhone application has just been released on the App Store and brings with it a new look with an emphasis on greater usability.

The first big difference in Facebook’s iPhone app is the new menu layout: the nine main categories (news feed, profile, friends, inbox, chat, requests, events, photos and notes) are laid out in an icon-ised menu with notifications available as a popup menu from the bottom of the screen.

Flipping your Facebook to the side is also possible as landscape mode has been enabled while photos can now be zoomed into and you can manage your photos in all the ways you do from the main site so deleting tags and creating and deleting albums is now possible.

Other new features include the same newsfeed view as on the main Facebook site, the ability to create shortcuts to favourite friends and pages, and you can view mutual friends.

You can even change your profile pic and upload video from your iPhone 3GS. You’ll never need to log in on your laptop again!

Facebook version 3 is available for both the iPhone and iPod touch.
