A Bray-based technology firm that works with 95pc of telecoms carriers in Ireland has won exclusive distribution rights to sell and deploy next-generation network (NGN) equipment in Ireland.

As a value added reseller, Data Edge will implement, support and manage the complete rollout of synchronisation systems for carriers and enterprise on behalf of Californian NGN equipment vendor Symmetricom.

Precise timing is critical to future wireless and wireline and next-generation IP and cable network efficiency and quality of service for the end user.

This is critical for service providers given the explosion of demanding IP-enabled services such as voice over IP (VoIP), triple play, streaming video and IPTV, explained Brian McBride, managing director of Data Edge.

His colleague, Data Edge technical director Paul Phelan, said the partnership with Symmetricom will help spearhead improvements in traditional and next-generation communications across Ireland.

“We believe the number of businesses and consumers adopting IP services such as VoIP and streaming video/IPTV will continue to grow if they can experience consistent and high quality end-to-end performance from their service providers,” Phelan said.
