Google 7-inch tablet rumoured for release in July

The market for smaller tablets just got a little bigger with Google apparently set to throw its hat into the ring this summer.

Rumours have begun circulating about a Google collaboration with Asus to launch a 7-inch tablet PC following a report from DigiTimes. The report on the Taipei-based news website claims the tablet will ship 600,000 units in June this year to reach the market in July.

This adds an interesting twist to the growing mini-tablet market, with Amazon’s Kindle Fire at the forefront, as well as Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 2 on the way. Not to be outdone, Apple is also rumoured to be working on a 7-inch iPad, expecting its debut in August.

However, rumours are just rumours and as yet these reports are unconfirmed by either Asus or Google – who, having just acquired Motorola Mobility, may have other plans up its sleeve.
