iPad 3 to have higher res display, iPhone 5 will be longer

21 Nov 2011

Apple’s iPad 3 will be thicker than the iPad 2 to accommodate a higher-resolution display, while the iPhone 5 will be a centimetre longer and will possibly come with a 4-inch screen, the latest rumours suggest.

According to Slashgear, Apple is insisting on a higher resolution display than the current 1,024 x 768 resolution on the iPad 2, possibly a 2,048 x 1,536 resolution screen.

This will require a more pixel-dense panel and stronger backlighting, resulting in Apple increasing the iPad 2 by 0.7mm.

In relation to the iPhone, the new smartphone will have a metal casing and will be 8mm longer than the current model.
