iPhone 5 to be unveiled on 4 October

21 Sep 2011

The world will be granted its first glimpse of Apple’s next-generation iPhone on Tuesday, 4 October. It will go on sale in the following weeks, according to the latest rumours.

That’s according to a new report in All Things Digital, which claims Apple will hold a major media shindig on 4 October and the device will roll out a few weeks after the announcement.

The new smartphone will be unveiled at the event by Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook.

The latest launch date is in keeping with reports that the Gold Master of Apple’s iOS 5 operating system will ship to manufacturers on 23 September, suggesting a mid-October launch.

Last week, new Case-Mate covers for the next iPhone that made a brief appearance online hinted at a radical new design that seems to be in keeping with prototype images that suggest a tapered shape and wider screen.
