University College Dublin (UCD) campus spin-off ChangingWorlds has scored a major deal with O2 UK to deploy its mobile web portal-building technology.

ChangingWorlds’ ClixSmart Intelligent Portal Platform will be used by O2 UK to reduce overheads and boost the speed of time to market with new portal content services.

“ClixSmart Template Builder provides real and immediate benefits to the O2 UK portal team,” explained Simon Malyon, O2 UK product development manager.

“The ability to re-use proven components simplifies and speeds up our template development process. This allows us to rapidly deliver optimised O2 Active content services to all new O2 Active handsets.”

Using a ‘copy-edit-launch’ approach to creating device templates, ClixSmart Template Builder enables operators to optimise presentation of portal content on new handsets.

New device templates are created by re-using and re-configuring components previously tested and delivered to existing handsets. Adapting portal content for new devices is as easy as copying a similar existing template and editing only those components relating to the unique features of the new handset.

“Optimising multimedia content presentation across multiple devices, each with unique characteristics, can present significant challenges for operators, which can contribute to delays in launching new handsets,” explained John Doyle, product marketing director with ChangingWorlds.

“ClixSmart Template Builder solves these issues so portal content can be rapidly adapted for new devices with minimum overhead,” Doyle added.
