Internet search giant Google is continuing to feature an Olympic sport a day as a Google Doodle on its homepage during the sporting event, and today’s subject is artistic gymnastics men’s rings.

The Doodle – a stylised Google logo on the company’s homepage – depicts a gymnast holding onto rings that form the letters ‘o’ in the word ‘Google’ while a crowd watches in the background.

The London 2012 Artistic Gymnastics Men’s Rings competition is being held in four phases: qualification, team final, individual all-around final and individual apparatus finals, from 28 July to 6 August. Ninety-eight men are competing, according to London 2012.

The next competition is the men’s individual all-around final tomorrow, 1 August, at 4.30pm, London time.

Artistic gymnastics uses rings as the gymnastics apparatus and requires extreme strength, control and balance to perform. The sport includes the gymnastics disciplines of artistic, rhythmic and trampoline, and six fields, which are the pommel, the high bar, the rings, the vault, the parallel bars and the floor.

The rings have an internal diameter of 18cm, are suspended 280cm from the floor, according to London 2012.

Google first started featuring Olympic-themed Google Doodles during the Olympics held in Sydney, Australia, in 2000.

The London 2012 Olympics run until 12 August.
