A total of 51 new emoji options have been proposed for the latest round of acceptance, with Unicode 10 potentially bringing us pretzels, pies, breastfeeding and UFOs.
It’s that time of year again, with the latest bout of suggestions shortlisted ahead of another wave of additions to our current emoji range.
Unicode 10 will be released with some or all of the 51 emoji proposals, featuring dinosaurs, animals, foodstuffs and aliens.
The most popular emoji additions are always faces and hands, with 36 of the final shortlist falling under those titles as reported by Emojipedia.
A grinning face with star eyes, a face applying make-up, a face vomiting, a grinning face with crazy eyes and a face putting its finger to its lips are all included.
There’s also a shocked face with an exploding head, an ‘I love you’ hand sign, palms held up together in prayer and a woman wearing a hijab on the list.
For food, there’s the addition of a coconut, broccoli, a pie, a pretzel, a sandwich, a cut of meat and a bowl with a spoon.
While several dinosaurs were originally suggested, this has been whittled down to just two: A sauropod (think Brontosaurus), and a T-Rex.
In the fantasy realm, we may see a mage, fairy, vampire, merperson, elf, genie or zombie coming with Unicode 10.
There are also additional pieces of clothing, a person in a steam room, a brain and a bearded person.
The proposal document notes that: “The intended appearance is not necessarily that shown in the proposal documents.”
