Nokia pulls no punches with video showdowns on YouTube

25 May 2012

Nokia has created a series of online videos to demonstrate how its Nokia Lumia 800 can outsmart the competition.

In a post on Conversations by Nokia titled ‘Lumia takes on all challengers’, a series of videos see magician Marco Tempest head to London’s Covent Garden to challenge rival smartphone owners to pit their device against the Nokia Lumia 800 and see who comes out on top.

The Lumia goes head-to-head with various iPhones and a BlackBerry Curve, as Tempest shows how easily and quickly he can discover local deals, get turn-by-turn directions, review the latest football scores, find a nearby café or check into Foursquare using the Windows Phone – all interspersed with a bit of magic, of course.

Aimed at showing off the Lumia’s declared ‘smarter, faster apps’, each episode shows how much time elapsed with each challenge completed by Tempest, as other smartphone users were left embarrassed by the delay in loading their functions.

Though this technique of blindsiding users on the street – who may not have or be familiar with the best apps to complete a certain task – the videos are nonetheless an entertaining challenge from Nokia to its competitors.
