Pac-Man on Google homepage ate 5 million work hours: study

25 May 2010

A Pac-Man game on internet search giant Google’s homepage to mark the 30th anniversary of the iconic video game took up nearly 5 million hours of work time, a study suggests.

A playable version of the game was on Google’s homepage on 21 May, reworked so the layout formed the letters in Google’s name.

On a typical day, most people conduct about 22 searches on the Google page, each one lasting about 11 seconds, statistics suggest.

Pac-Man on the page boosted that time by an average of around 36 seconds.
