Samsung's full-size Galaxy S5

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is to get a little sister this summer, with the arrival of an S5 Mini smartphone, which will be smaller in both dimensions and specifications, according to a Samsung fan-site and its insiders.

The Galaxy S5 was unveiled back in February and – just like the S4 led to the S4 Mini and the S4 Zoom – Samsung may be planning a whole family of S5-themed devices.

SamMobile claims to have uncovered the specifications for a Galaxy S5 Mini. It’s said to sport a 4.5-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, which is still bigger than Apple’s iPhone 5s.

Inside, there’s said to be 1.5GB RAM, 16GB storage, a 2,100mAh battery and a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor (likely the quad-core Snapdragon 400).

The S4 Mini is also said to have 8MP rear and 2MP front-facing cameras. It will come running Android 4.4 out of the box, too, if these leaked specs are true.

Some key new features the S5 brings to the table however, might not be there, as SamMobile could only speculate on water-resistance, a heart-rate monitor and a fingerprint sensor. The site is confident that we’ll see this device sometime in June.

The full-size S5, meanwhile, is available for pre-order now in Ireland from O2 and Carphone Warehouse.
