Skype officially arrives on iPads

2 Aug 2011

Skype pulled its iPad app from the App Store earlier, blaming a “premature release.” Now, the video calling tablet app is back online.

The iPad app was removed from the App Store previously, with Skype claiming it went live “prematurely.”

However, it’s now back on the App Store with an official announcement from Skype about the release.

Skype is now optimised for the Apple tablet touchscreen and can be used in landscape or portrait view. It also takes advantage of the iPad 2’s front-and-rear facing cameras. iPad 1 users can only receive video calls.

The app offers two-way video calling, instant messaging during video calls and SMS texting. It lets users make landline and mobile calls over 3G and Wi-Fi networks.
