With two brand new models of the Sony Reader announced, Sony will be going head-to-head with Amazon’s Kindle, offering an aggressively priced US$200 Reader Pocket Edition alongside a US$300 version – the Reader Touch Edition – with a 6-inch screen and as the name suggest, touch interface.
Interestingly neither of these models – the PRS-300 and PRS-600 – will have wireless connectivity like the Kindle but they both use the same E-Ink display technology as the Kindle and original Reader, which is designed to prevent eye strain and give better battery life (up to two weeks) to the devices.
Sony’s previous touch-screen Reader, the PRS-700, never reached the Irish market so these two new models will be replacing the current PRS-505, which currently sells for €249.
