Sport social media site records half a million members

Irish sports social networking site Teamer.net has recorded 500,000 members and announced plans for an international rollout.

The social media platform, which is funded by advertising and sponsorship, enables players, coaches and parents to communicate online and allows team management to contact players directly.

“Our attentions are now very much turned towards global markets, and this year we established permanent offices in London, Sydney and Wellington. We are well on target to achieve user growth to more than 1 million members in the first half of 2010 and to accelerate our growth quickly as we expand into more international geographies,” said Niall McEvoy, Teamer CEO.

Different platforms

McEvoy said part of this global outlook will include expanding across different platforms.

“As we expand our mobile reach with the launch of an enhanced suite of apps for iPhone and Android users in early 2011, combined with our ability to deliver location-based targeting, our relationship with our advertisers and sponsors will deepen,” said McEvoy.

Teamer has been nominated for a TechCrunch Europa award in the category ‘Best Sport, Leisure, Entertainment’ website.
