St Patrick’s Day online fever hits eBay

16 Mar 2010

With St Patrick’s Day just around the corner, online auction giant eBay has seen a surge in all things green, with a 250pc rise in St Patrick’s Day listings.

According to eBay figures, shamrock pin sales have racked up a 94pc increase so far this month, while green leather jackets soared into the top 10 most-searched items in the online auction firm’s clothing, shoes and accessory category running up to March.

There has also been a 55pc rise in sales of music from Ireland, while sales of Guinness pint glasses have jumped up 15pc.

“St Patrick’s Day is such a universally loved celebration so it’s no surprise that there has been a 250pc rise in listings as shoppers are eager to be seen in green. From subtle badges to full-on costumes, it seems that everyone wants their very own piece of Paddy,” said eBay’s Patrick Munden.
