The Week in Gadgets

15 Mar 2010

A look at gadget, game and geek happenings in the week ahead.

There will be plenty of Microsoft-related news over the next few days as its annual MIX10 web design and developer conference kicks off in Las Vegas today.

Project Natal developments and news on the Windows Mobile 7 Series phone will be hot topics but the upcoming Internet Explorer 9 will also come under the spotlight tomorrow with a dedicated keynote covering issues including HTML5 support.

Michael Klucher and Shawn Hargreaves will be talking about developing games with XNA for Windows Phone 7 Series and Loic Le Meur, CEO and founder of Seesmic, will be chatting to the audience about Microsoft’s Silverlight – something that we will be seeing growing in importance, especially with the HP Slate device that last week showed apps/widgets running on this framework.

Hold on to your disco boots: this week sees the arrival of Lady Gaga on Rock Band with a four pack of songs from the diva of different while a special Lady Gaga cover by South Park’s Cartman is also coming to the Rock Band Music Store as well as some singles from 3 Doors Down, Mute Math and The Subways.

The Lady Gaga Pack 01 will include Bad Romance, Just Dance, Monster and Poker Face, and will be available for purchase as an entire pack as well as individual tracks on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 but as individual tracks only on Wii. Cartman’s cover is of Poker Face.

Meanwhile, Vodafone UK is getting ready to launch a slew of HTC phones. Three new models, the Nexus One, HTC Legend and HTC Desire, will be available on the mobile network from next month, however the Nexus One will only go on sale online through Google.
