Twitter Xmas single hits top of iTunes charts

5 Dec 2011

A Christmas single recorded by Irish Twitter users after a single tweet call to action brought 150 Twitterers together to sing their hearts out has gone to No 1 on the iTunes charts.

On 19 November, Twitter user Brenda Drumm from Kildare tweeted, “Wouldn’t it be great to have a Twitter Xmas Single?”

Lo and behold, 140 Twitterers heeded her call and last Sunday, 27 November, some 140 people gathered at the Banking Hall of the Westin Hotel in Dublin along with musicians and producers.

The song, a cover of Winter Song, costs just 99c and all the proceeds are earmarked for the Neonatal special care unit at Holles Street National Maternity Hospital, a charity chosen by the Twitter choir.

The song, which began as a tweet from Drumm, could easily make it to the top of the overall Irish charts as a No 1 Christmas single.
