US state charges author of paedophiles’ guide

Police officers have arrested a Pueblo, Colorado, man who wrote a how-to guide for paedophiles that was pulled from Amazon on a warrant that charges him with violating obscenity laws in Florida.

Phillip Greaves waived his right to fight extradition at a court hearing and was then transferred to Polk County, Florida.

A sheriff in the county said he claimed jurisdiction because Greaves sold and sent his book to undercover officers, who had requested a copy of The Paedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure: A Child-Lover’s Code of Conduct.

“You just can’t believe how absolutely disgusting it was,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd of the book’s content.

In the book, Greaves says that paedophiles are misunderstood, and that it’s only a crime to act on sexual impulses toward children. His book, he has said, offers advice that purportedly allows paedophiles to abide by the law.

The book first appeared on Amazon on November and was taken off the online shopping site after a public outcry.
