While the tech world is quite confident that the iPhone 5 will be launched on Wednesday, 12 September, Apple may have more than a smartphone to unveil as rumour has it that a 4-inch iPod touch may also make its debut at the event.
Like last year’s iPhone launch, new versions of the iPod touch, iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle are expected to make an appearance at the Wednesday launch. Among the speculated specifications from iMore for the new iPod touch are a faster Apple A5 processor, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi Direct to connect to other devices, and a 4-inch display – which, if it’s the same display being used in the new iPhone, could be a Retina display with in-plane switching (IPS) technology.
Meanwhile, 9to5Mac weighs in with the possibility of a smaller dock connector, iOS 6, increased internal storage, and perhaps even an injection of colour to the range.
The rest of the iPod line may see minor updates, like new colour ranges and slight changes to the form factor.
