Will the next iPad be called the iPad HD?

The iPad rumours are rolling in as Apple’s press event draws nearer, with reports suggesting the next iPad could be called the iPad HD, rather than the iPad 3, as initially speculated.

Gizmodo reports that part listings from Griffin and Belkin, which make accessories for the tablet, have now named the tablet ‘iPad HD.’

Apple is notoriously secretive about its upcoming products, which means manufacturers will not know what they’ll be called until closer to its release date. Apple has announced it will be revealing what is likely to be the next iPad at a press event on 7 March, which means manufacturers may have been given the name of the product by now.

Last year, while most people assumed the next iPhone would be called the iPhone 5, it was discovered much closer to the unveiling date that its name would actually be the iPhone 4S.

The iPad HD name would make sense if the rumours that the tablet will have a 2,048 x 1,536 Retina Display are true. Of course, like all iPad rumours, nothing is certain until Apple’s press event takes place on Wednesday.
