Xbox LIVE gets Universal Pictures content

26 Feb 2009

From today, 26 February, Xbox LIVE users in Ireland and the UK can rent some 30 big-movie titles from Universal Pictures, including Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

This new deal for Microsoft Xbox adds to the exciting film industry icons, Warner Bros and Paramount, which already supply titles for download.

The 30 movies include: Shaun of the Dead, The Chronicles of Riddick, The Game, The Bourne Supremacy, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Carlito’s Way.

There is also the classic ‘so bad it’s good’ Kevin Costner movie Waterworld. Hands up who’s tempted to rent his one?

New releases in standard definition cost €4.29 per rental, or 360 MS points, whereas high-definition (HD) new releases cost €6.43.

For older movies, the standard-definition costs €2.98 a pop, while the HD ones will cost €4.53 each.

“This is all part of our ongoing strategy to make Xbox a major entertainment hub,” said David Gosen, vice-president of Marketing, Xbox Europe.

“This agreement makes the Xbox LIVE film offering bigger and better than ever.”
