A team of students has just broken the record for the fastest car acceleration, managing 0-100 km/h in just 1.779 seconds.
The University of Stuttgart students beat the previous record by 0.006s, taking two consecutive runs in opposite directions to attain the achievement, according to the World Record Academy.
It took a few goes before Priska Schmid set the time at the Jade Weser Airport in north-western Germany.
Four motors and a 6.62kWh battery pack powered the car, which cames about as part of a Formula Student competition.
By way of comparison, it took me longer to get out of my chair than it took this car to get to that speed.
As an office experiment, we also found that it trumps eating three crisps (20.8s with the help of a drink) and putting on a sweater that was on the back of a chair (4.3s).
It took 25 metres for the GreenTeam Formula Student electric racing car E0711-5 to get to the 100km/h speed, the length of most swimming pools.
The record has yet to be confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records, a process that could take a few weeks.
